Sweden – May 2-6 ? Brice took a group heliskiing in Sweden, the land of the midnight sun. Snow conditions were not the best but it was a great end of season trip up in the Arctic.

Une petite heure de route et c’est le village coloré et pittoresque de Siglofjyords et ses 500 habitants qui nous ouvre ses bras ‘camouflé’ au fond d’un fjord…  Cet ancien petit village de pêcheurs de harengs s’est reconverti en douceur au tourisme outdoor.

Ce lieu stratégique nous permet à la fois de goûter aux joies de l’héliski et de la randonnée, le tout bercé par le murmure de l’océan…

La lumière est ici très particulière. Elle offre au mois de mai 21h de jour sur 24h, ce qui permet de voler en soirée et de s’adapter plus facilement à la météo, quand celle-ci se montre capricieuse, et d’optimiser ainsi 10 à 12 déposes par jour.

Les jours de mauvais temps sont tout aussi appréciés et nous donnent l’occasion de découvrir une autre facette des lieux. Quoi de mieux qu’un spa naturel extérieur, des cascades vertigineuses, des géserts volcaniques, des bains bouillonnants où se prélasser… et des eaux chaudes sulfurées pour récupérer de nos journées sportives ! Et en exclusivité une visite originale au  « Beer Spa »: bain de houblon avec dégustation simultanée de bière locale !

Du côté des papilles, aucune déception ! De quoi satisfaire les gourmets avec une cuisine locale raffinée à base de produits frais 100% locaux: cerfs, oies, poissons frais, cabillaud, hareng, saumon… Hum un délice !

Cette année les conditions, à la fois poudreuse et neige de printemps, ont fait le régal des deux groupes successifs que j’ai pu emmener et accompagner sur ces terres… à l’énergie puissante et envoutante !

Le dernier soir se fait toujours dans la charmante petite ville de Reykjavik. L’occasion de visiter les musées locaux qui content les aventures de leurs terres et de ses habillants ‘les vikings’ et de partager un dernier diner gastronomique.

As a former competitive athlete and member of the French aerial ski team and an ex pro skier, he always push himself in order to set goals and achieve them. His taste for adventure hasn’t gone away ever since he became a daddy of two, four years ago. Wide-open spaces always attracted him, just like mountains and ocean. He’s traveling all the times all over the world seeking new powder destinations (he’s just about to get his Canadian ski guide certificate, by the way!).

For those who are trying to run ski trip they know there is always a good reason not to come at the end, sick grandma, broke, work, laziness, lack of anticipation… with the tickets and myself booked they could not risks a last minute cancellation.

I have visited Japan over 15 times the last 20 years and always have focused my attention in Hokkaido. The main island of Onshu has over 1000 ski resorts and most of the attention goes to the one called Hakuba so we figured out it was worth exploring the other ones.

We will obviously not mention too much about the journey itself as we found empty ski resort and deep powder all the way.
